(April 27, 2011 – New York, NY) Ryan O’Neal, an actor best known for his Academy Award-nominated role in the classic film Love Story, will share the full story of his turbulent but emotionally powerful long-term relationship with actress and pop culture icon Farrah Fawcett in a memoir to be published by Crown Archetype in spring 2012.
Tentatively titled PAST IMPERFECT, Mr. O’Neal’s book will be simultaneously issued in print and digital formats and will include never-before-seen photographs and documents.
In PAST IMPERFECT, Mr. O’Neal will candidly describe his and Farrah Fawcett’s roller coaster of love and loss, from their first meeting in 1979 until her death in June 2009. In recounting their 30-year on and off again love affair, he will write candidly about every aspect of their relationship, the reluctance of Fawcett’s former husband to leave; the pressures of their respective careers, with hers ascending and his in decline; role of drugs in his life; their inevitable break-up; their emotional reunion after Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia; the devastating news of Farrah’s own struggle with cancer; and their heartbreaking last days together.
Mr. O’Neal will also discuss his eventful life and career in Hollywood, including his relationship with his daughter Tatum O’Neal, which has been stormy throughout the years as each battled substance abuse problems. Mr. O’Neal will star with his daughter in a new reality series, “Ryan and Tatum: The O’Neals,” that will air on the OWN Network this summer.
The book deal was announced today by Tina Constable, Senior Vice President, Publisher, Crown Archetype, who acquired world, electronic, audio, and first and second serial rights from Kent Carroll, publisher of Europa Editions. Senior Editor Suzanne O’Neill will edit the book.
