Wednesday, November 10th, 2010“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,”> by Rebecca Skloot,> won the U.K.’s Wellcome Trust Book Prize. The award celebrates medicine in literature and, according to The Guardian, chair of prize judges, Clive Anderson, calls the book “a worthy winner of a prize designed to honour fine writing on a medical theme.”

The Land of Painted Caves Cover Unveiled
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010Today the cover for Jean Auel’s forthcoming The Land of Painted Caves was unveiled. Scheduled to be published March 29, 2011, The Land of Painted Caves is the 6th book in Auel’s “Earth’s Children©” series which started three decades ago with the iconic The Clan of the Cave Bear.
In order to write the series, set 35,000 years ago in prehistoric Europe, Jean made sure to do her research. She knows how to soften hides with deer brains, start a fire without matches and slept in a snow cave for a night. Dedication, she has, and this final book promises to be of the same caliber as her others. It even has a “little surprise.”
And although this is it for “Earth’s Children,” it may not be the end of Ayla’s story. In an interview with the Associated Press, the author says, “To be honest, I don’t feel like I’m through.”
We hope not.
Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in ‘The Devil in the White City’ Film
Monday, November 1st, 2010Deadline reports that Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, has acquired film rights to author Erik Larson’s 2003 bestseller about the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and America’s first serial killer, The Devil in the White City. Apparently DiCaprio will himself star as the killer…
